ADVANCE IN BURMA
Enemy Bases Captured KANDY, December 21. Two important Japanese bases Wuntho and Nankan, on the Myitky-ina-Rangoon railway have been captured by troops of the 14th Army who recently advanced east from the Chindwin to link up with the British 36th Division in the railway corridor. The correspondent of the Associated Press states that this brings the Allied forces a further 50 miles down the railway since the capture of Indaw. Nankan lies about 35 miles southwest of Indaw, and Wuntho a further 16 miles down the railway. Nearly one quarter of the total length of the railway from Myitkyina to Rangoon is now in Allied control. In Northern Burma Chinese troops have captured three villages near the Bhamo-Namhkan road, killing 2000 Japanese and taking equipment and ammunition.
