Advance By Allied Forces (8 p.m.) RUGBY. Jan. 11. The Commander-in-Chief. . Southeast Asia, Lord Louis Mountbatten, in a communique states: “West of the Mayu range, Burma, our troops continued to advance against enemy strongpoints and are now in possession of Paungdaw. In the central part of the front our troops made similar advances. Royal Air Force divebombers and ’ fighters maintained their attacks on enemy positions in the Mayu peninsula. ‘ Since Friday Royal Air Force fighters have carried out dally sweeps against traffic in Arakan, destroying or damaging a numbei- of craft. On Friday. Saturday and Sunday the airfield at Akyab was attacked by Royal Air Force fighters. One twin-engined enemy aircraft was destroyed on the ground.
