SEEKING HARMONIOUS RELATIONS
Poland And Russia LONDON, January 11. Discussing Soviet-Polish relations, authoritative British circles take the view that while parts of the Russian statement are of a controversial nature, as might also be said of the Polish declaration to which it refers, it does represent in substance a most important contribution for consideration, and, it is to be hoped, the ultimate settlement of the difficult problems to which it relates. The Polish Cabinet met twice to-day to discuss the Soviet statement, but no announcement is likely at present. Mr Anthony Eden late this afternoon received M. Stanislaw Mikolajezyk, Prime Minister of Poland, and Count Romer, Foreign Minister. What America Thinks The Polish question is regarded in America as a case for a policy of reasonableness in the European settlement embracing Yugoslavia and Greece, where Russia is also showing a strong hand, says the Washington correspondent of the "New York Times.” The United States is expected to continue its efforts to achieve a reasonable adjustment of the Polish border dispute. In face of Soviet claims the United States apparently intends to continue supporting the Polish Government. Mr Roosevelt is believed to be eager to dispose of the Polish question satisfactorily before the November elections, otherwise the situation in 1920 might be repeated, in which European controversies figured heavily. At anyrate the intention of Washington is to remain patient yet tenacious. There is no disposition to fight Russia over the question.
