EXCURSION TRAINS POPULAR
Nearly 2000 Visitors To
Timaru
Nearly 2000 passengers arrived in Timaru by the three excursion trains from Christchurch yesterday. The weather was sultry, but on Caroline Bay conditions were pleasant and a large crowd of people enjoyed themselves during the day. The first train from Christchurch brought 976 visitors, the second 761, and the third 111. When the train for the north left Timaru in the morning it carried 570 persons. EXCURSIONS TO WEST COAST (N.Z.P.A.) WESTPORT, Jan. 10. More than 400 passengers left Westport for Reefton yesterday by a special train for the races in addition to double-unit railcars w’hich conveyed many persons in the same direction. To-day 610 from Westport attended a Labour Party picnic at Inangahua Junction by special train. All were delighted with the trip through the Buller Gorge where the rata is just beginning to blaze on the tree tops.
