Mrs C. H. Miller presided over a fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Fairlie Women’s Institute. Miss Ruth Hall was welcomed as a new member. Owing to leaving the district resignations were received from Mesdames Hayman and Manchester. Mrs Miller in farewellint, Mrs Manchester presented her with a floral tribute. Mrs Manchester suitably replied. Mrs Cassie was congratulated on the birth of a daughter. All prize winners at the recent A. and P. show were congratulated. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs C. Jones in the death of her mother, and to Mesdames Boyle, Fahey and P. Carroll, who are ill. Mrs Robertson delighted all present with a humorous monologue. A report of the recent Federation meeting at Pleasant Point was given by Mrs J. Hall. Mr D. Jeune gave a description of a trip abroad for which he was accorded a vote of thanks. A' competition for Jumbled Institute names proved very Interesting. Members were reminded of the play “Charity Begins,” in aid of patriotic funds. Competitions resulted as follows: Wholemeal fruit square, Mrs C. H. Miller 1, Mrs J. Hall 2 and 3; bottled pears, Mrs Miller 1: soldier’s scarf, Mrs Hatton 1, Mrs Siegert 2, Miss Cameron 3; best bloom, Mrs Braddick 1 and 2, Mrs W. Cuthifi 3. Mrs A. Cuthill took as her golden thread talk “Singapore.” The following served afternoon tea: Mesdames A. H. ‘ Gillingham, G. Macdonald, T. Monahan and Cameron.
