WEDDINGS
SMITH—MALTHUS The marriage was celebrated recently at St. Augustine’s Church, Waimate, of Alison Kathlyn, second daughter of Mr and Mrs S. Malthus, Waimate, and Laurence Ernest, youngest son of Mr and Mrs A. T. Smith, Ashburton. The Rev. A. H. Acheson performed the ceremony and Miss G. Palmer presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a white georgette frock cut on simple lines with a full skirt and bodice. The wide belt was embroidered with seed pearls. Her veil, which was embroidered with seed pearls in true lovers’ knots, was held in place by a pearl halo, and she carried a shower bouquet of cream rosebuds and cream abutilons. A sister of the bride, Miss Anna Malthus, attended as bridesmaid, and was dressed in deep blue georgette, cut on similar lines to the bride’s frock. Her bouquet was of deep red rosebuds and maidenhair fern. Mr Bruce Knox acted as best man. During the ceremony, Miss May Allan, of Ashburton, sang “Where’er you Walk.” At the reception, the bride’s mother, who received the guests, wore a navy blue tailored costume with hat to match. She carried a bouquet of apricot abutilons and nasturtiums. Assisting her was the bridegroom’s mother, who wore a black pin-striped tailored costume with hat and gloves to match. Her bouquet was of bronze abutilons and nasturtiums. For travelling the bride chose a light blue frock with a navy blue edge-to-edge coat and a navy hat to match. The future home of Mr and Mrs L. E. Smith will be in Waimate.
