RICCARTON NOTES

MORE HOLIDAY PLANS (Special to “The Timaru Herald") CHRISTCHURCH, November 25. H. R. Davies has his team in good order just now and three members may be racing at Ashburton. On their form may depend the arrangements for the holidays. Sovereign Lady is topweight in the Tinwald Handicap, but her recent running suggests that she is on the down grade. Rue and Puella are in other events. Rue disappointed in the Oaks and she is capable of better ‘deeds. Puella has no race form yet. Muffler is having a quiet time, but he went well enough in two highweight events at Riccarton to show that he is on the way to better than hack form. Dunedin, Waikouaiti and Oamaru will provide the stable programme if any holiday racing is decided on. W. J. Cameron has Knight Commander and some novices in work. The former ran a creditable race in the Metropolitan Handicap, and he is nearing his form again. He may be seen to advantage at Ashburton after which he should be a good prospect for some of the southern meetings during the holidays. C. C. McCarthy has a useful team with which to make plans for the holidays. Cymric and Symbol, two winners at Riccarton are capable of further improvement, while Trench Fight may not be long before he gets into the money again. F. Hall has just taken Rebel Chief in hand again, after the rest, and he looks well. Miss Tasta is also moving along freely and her sister, Muriet, will join the active list soon. Entail, the fourth member of the team, will come back in about a week, having apparently become sound again. If they train on, these four should pay thenway on the West Coast holiday circuit. F. Holmes is doing only easy work with The Wrecker, who continues to show signs of muscle soreness. No definite plans have been made yet but it seems probable that he will not do any racing for some time. Lindus, the Colossus two-year-old in the same ownership, is also on the easy list for a week or two, and he may not be hurried. Hammal, a Myosotis two-year-old in H. Nurse’s stable, Is to be gelded, after which he will have a spell. He has a great burst of speed and with time he should be a smart performer. F. A. Nelson has Box On looking well and he may pay his way soon. He is a five-year-old by Hunting Song and he has not had much racing. Guilder, in the same stable, has resumed work. She has thrown off all signs of the lameness which made a spell necessary. A splint was the trouble. This mare only needs to train on to win good sprint races. Although Schoolgirl is engaged also In the Tinwald Handicap, it is probable that she will compete at Ashburton in the seven furlong Wakanui Handicap. She may be favourite. Owing to an accident, Jolly Time had to be given a short rest after she won the maiden race at Rangiora. She is all right again and she will have to be reckoned with in the hack sprint at Ashburton. This Paper Money filly has brilliant speed and she may go on to good class before the end of the season.
