The Gore pacer Drumoak, who won at Forbury on Saturday, is to go into E. J. Smith’s stable. It was too much to expect Dark Hazard to trot three times in succession, and he reverted to his galloping tactics at Forbury yesterday. It transpires that Three Tens was not accepted for in either of his races at Forbury on Saturday, and that his name appeared in the lists owing to a misunderstanding. All Love, who has twice won in 581 (Australian record) is claimed to be the best two-year-old seen in Australia for twenty years. She is unbeaten in three date. * The totalisator continues to gain popularity in Victoria, the State in which it had the hardest fight to establish Itself. Many of the smaller bookmakers complain that they cannot hold more than a quarter of the money they did twenty years ago. There were conflicting reports regarding the betting system to be used at Levin, but ultimately the club decided to adhere to the single pool, as it was feared that there would be congestion if the two-way method were adopted. Beau Vite is not to race in Victoria in the autumn, but it is intended to send him across to Randwick for the Easter carnival, and it will be surprising if he does not have a tilt at the Wellington Cup. Beaulivre has probably run his last race in the Dominion. Kid Wolf was withdrawn on the first day at Forbury, but he followed up his Wellington success with another victory yesterday. He has won at each of his starts since coming to Washdyke to be trained. King Potts captured the principal double at Forbury. On each occasion he appeared to be in a bad position three or four furlongs from home, and then outpaced a lot of very speedy pacers. The Oamaru-tralned gelding seems to be on the way to the best class. * • • • Twenty-three horses crowded the track in the Sydney Handicap at Forbury yesterday. A collision occurred during the running, and as a result about half the field had their chances obliterated. The Southland Highweight winner, Lucky Feather, had not previously been successful, but he has done very little racing, and he attracted attention eleven months ago by participating in a blanket finish in a hack handicap at Invercargill. He did not appear again until yesterday. Mona’s Song, who won the Southland Cup yesterday, had been second in the race in the two previous years. The Songbird mare was successful in the Southland Handicap at New Year, but lost form at the end of the season, and she seems to reach her peak during the summer season. Happy Man began badly at Forbury yesterday, but not so badly as usual, and he dashed past the field six furlongs from home. That was the end of the contest, as the Winchesterowned pacer was not challenged. Happy Man has the ability to win more races over any distance when he becomes more reliable at barrier-rise. Very recently Saint Tor was hailed as the fastest two-year-old seen for years, but after one failure (in the Wellesley Stakes) he was discredited. Foreign Coin won the Wellesley, and in turn was acclaimed as exceptional, but after missing a place in the Welcome he followed Saint Tor into the discard. One defeat appears to be sufficient nowadays to shatter a reputation. When Ajax declined further encounters at Flemington with the Big Three from New Zealand, It was hinted that he was to be retired, but the latest announcement is that he is to be trained for autumn racing. Beau Vite will not be in Victoria in the autumn, but High Caste and Beaulivre are pretty certain to be on deck, and if they are Ajax will find things just as hard. At a recent meeting at Broken Hill, backers received a raw deal from bookmakers. In one race with seven starters the favourite was quoted at 6 to 4 two horses at 5 to 2, two at 4 to 1, and two at 5 to 1. In another event, with six runners, the favourite was quoted at 6 to 4, another runner at 7 to 4, and the others at 3 to 1. In another six-horse race two shared favouritism at 2 to 1, one was at 7 to 2, one at 4 to 1, and two at 5 to 1. A third member of the Gouisbro family has commenced riding In Auckland province, and in a trial event at Te Rapa last week C. G. Gouisbro was on the winner, C. L. Gouisbro on the second horse, and G. B. Gouisbro (the newcomer) on one of the other runners. Their father, G. Gouisbro, trained the second horse. Kingcraft. The similarity of initials of the three brothers is liable to cause a certain amount of confusion in the compilation of results. , , There has not been much money to be made in supporting Certissimus. but hLs backers have had the satisfaction of collecting on the best three-year-old trotter the Dominion has seen. In his second race at Forbury, D. Teahen was in no hurry, and did not ask the colt for speed until five furlongs from home. He breezed to the front in a furlong, and won easily in 3.20 1-5, shattering the previous record. Certissimus would make things very torrid for any three-year pacer with the exception of Special Force. He trotted his last mile yesterday in 2.8 without being extended. * * e Secret Flight, who gave away a lot of weight and won the Trial Handicap at Invercargill, is a half-sister to Wild

Career, who just previously accounted for the open sprint. Secret Flight has started only three times, and finished second in her two previous essays. She has not been well placed. The race selected for her debut was not a maiden event, but a hack handicap when the winter minimum was in vogue. She finished second, eight lengths in front of the third horse, and at Dunedin, instead of being on the lowest line of a novice handicap, she was required to give away weights up to 161 b. and then ran second.
