GENEROUS AMERICA
Problem For Ministry Of Shipping By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received November 23, 12.5 a.m.) LONDON, November 21. The generosity of the American public has created a problem for the Ministry of Shipping. Gifts for the relief of distress are pouring into Britain in such volume that cargo space urgently needed for military and civil requirements is seriously overcrowded. The Ministry is establishing a committee to advise on the whole question of gifts from America. The committee has been instructed to review the United Kingdoms needs that can be relieved by gifts ard make recommendations for he revision of shipping space. The chairman is oir Ronald Lindsay, who is co-opting the services of representatives of war relief and voluntary organisations. It is hoped that a similar committee will be established in the United States. Appeals for gifts from the United States must henceforth be submitted to the American Gifts Committee, working in co-operation with the Ministry of Health.
