Judge Burgis, chairman of the Lancashire and Cheshire Conscientious Objectors’ Tribual, was stabbed four times in the back when board ing a train at Manchester. He was admitted to hospital with severe wounds. His condition is serious. Henry Balantine Best, aged 24. a clerk, was charged at Manchester with intent to murder Judge Burgis. Best, who said he did not Intend to murder the judge, was remanded.
