PLEASANT VALLEY

FAREWELL SOCIAL Residents and friends met in the Pleasant Valley Hall on Saturday evening to do honour to Mr and Mrs A. Easterbrook, who are leaving the district. During the evening Miss Mona Clarke gave two tap dancing and acrobatic items accompanied at the piano by Miss Jean Fifield. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr Chapman, an extra being played by Mr E. Evans. Mr C. Blair was M.C. A novelty dance was won by Mrs H. Bailey and Mr J. McKay. Mr Hill spoke of Mr and Mrs Easterbrook’s long residence in Pleasant Valley. Mr Easterbrook had given great assistance when the cheese factory was first built. He had been on the hall committee, being a great supporter of the building of the hall, and had also served on the school committee. On behalf of the district he wished them happy years in their new home and presented them with two easy chairs and an attache case for Miss Easterbrook. Mr C. Wilks and Mr A. Coleman endorsed Mr Hill’s remarks. Mr Easterbrook suitably replied. Mr Murphy the oldest resident in the district, presented Mrs Easterbrook with a bouquet. PERSONAL Miss Nita Crotty who has been visiting Temuka, is now the guest of her grandmother, Mrs T. Barker, Riccarton, Christchurch. Mr C. P. Allen, newly appointed teacher at the Pleasant Valley School and Mrs Allen and family have taken up residence in the schoolhouse.
