GISBORNE PILOT ESCAPES DEATH By Telegraph—Press Association GISBORNE. November 21. A miraculous escape from an accident in which two of his friends were killed was experienced by Pilot-Officer Claude Hansen, Gisborne, when the aeroplane he was flying “somewhere over Scotland” came into collision in midair with a training machine. In a letter to his parents PilotOfficer Hansen said that he was on sick leave in Edinburgh and had escaped from the mishap with severe shock, a cut on the forehead, and concussion. He was still suffering from the shock of the death of his f:':nds in the other machine, one a pilot-officer Instructor and the other a trainee Pilot-Officer Hansen left Gisborne two years ago to take a short- -rite commission in the Royal Air Force. He has been carrying on the duties of instructor for some time.
