COMMITTEE MEETS

CYCLE AND ATHLETIC CLUB The final meeting for the season of the Fairlie Cycle and Athletic Club was held on Tuesday night. Present were Messrs J. Macdonald. A. R. Cuthill. E. B. Taylor. A. Pryde, E. Ridley, D. C. K. Clarke and G. Dunn. The success of the meetings held during the season was referred to by Mr Macdonald, president of the Club, who said that members had co-operate with him loyally. He thanked them for their assistance. The committee decided to recommend to the incoming committee that in the event of a camping ground being set up on the athletic grounds, it be given every support by the Club. The success of the fund organised for injured players was referred to. It was decided to pay the medical expenses of two riders and others are to be compensated for loss of time at work. A recommendation is to be made that an insurance fund be set up for injured cyclists in future years. Mr Macdonald thanked members of the committee for the assistance they had given the athletes, and expressed appreciation of the interest taken by Messrs G. Dunn and T. Clarke in the track.

Votes of thanks were passed to the chairman, the committees responsible for the smoke concert and the euchre party, and the women.

INSPECTION OF VEHICLES Vehicle inspectors of the Transport Department visited Fairlie yesterday and carried out a thorough inspection of lorries and other licensed vehicles in the district. Brakes, lights, structural members and safety equipment were closely checked over, and in the main the vehicles were found to be quite satisfactory. The inspection is made periodically to ascertain whether vehicles comply with the transport regulations. TO-DAY’S COUNTY MEETING The annual meeting of the Mackenzie County Council will be held in Fairlie to-day. In order to avoid having two meetings in the month, the ordinary monthly meeting will be held in conjunction. At the annual meeting the County chairman, committees, and representatives on the High Schools’ Board and the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce are elected.
