REINFORCING STEEL

AUSTRALIAN PRICE REDUCED By Telegraph—Prrsp Association AUCKLAND, December 2. A further reduction in the retell indent prices for builders reinforcing steel rounds from Australia of about 10/- a ton representing a drop of approximately 20/- since October, is announced by the wholesale distributors. Instead of Australian steel being quoted at “prices ruling at the date of shipment ’ Australian suppliers are now quoting firm prices. Australian steel deliveries had been very protracted, the period being about 32 weeks for reinforcing rounds. The period for rounds has now been reduced to eight or 10 weeks. For tome classes of steel production it is being effected within 14 days of receipt of orders. Any shipping delays are expected to be overcome next year when new vessels are due for the Tasman service. Until recently certain classes of steel were imported from Canada because of protracted deliveries from Australia, but now that the position in Australia l.as eased materially, Canadian business has tailed off.
