MRS H. BANNERMAN FAREWELLED A pleasant afternoon was spent at the rooms of the South Canterbury Women’s Club yesterday, when the members met to welcome the secretary, Miss Barron, who has recently returned from a trip to England, and to say farewell to Mrs H. Bannerman who acted in her absence. The rooms had been decorated with bowls of pink and white peonies, Oriental poppies and lupins with roses on the tea tables. After tea, Mrs E. G. Kerr (president), said how delighted she was to see so many members, as it showed a keen interest in the club, and they were all pleased to have Miss Barron in their midst again after her enjoyable holiday. She wished to express appreciation of Mrs Bannerman’s -work as acting secretary. She had filled the office admirably and was most zealous in carrying out her duties. When the Tyrol Tea Rooms closed down, Mrs Bannerman came to the club’s assistance and catered for afternoon tea. For this alone the gratitude of the club could not be fully expressed. Mrs Kerr then presented Mrs Bannerman with a small token as a mark of appreciation. Mrs Bannerman thanked the president and members for all their kindness and said the work had given her great pleasure as everyone was so considerate and helpful. She thanked all those who were so good in sending flowers for the decoration of the rooms. Apologies were received from Mrs M. Howley, Mrs W. G. Tweedy, Mrs William Raymond, Mrs E. Howden, Mrs A. E. Kerr, Mrs W. Thomas, Mrs Reid, Miss Maud Howden, Mrs A. Wigley, and Jfrs N. D. Mangos. The afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
