"No, I am not a refugee from Central Europe.” Dr. H. Schmidt, formerly of Vienna, who arrived at Wellington from England in the Arawa and who is bound for Dunedin, had the above answer ready almost before the question was asked at the beginning of an interview. He explained with a smile that whenever people he met learned that he was Viennese they Immediately wanted to know if he was another professional man forced to leave his homeland. Dr. Schmidt, who Is accompanied by his English wife, has come to New Zealand to make his home and practise his profession here. They are young people and are looking forward with enthusiasm to the task of establishing themselves in New Zealand. The doctor speaks faultless English, which he said he had learned from his wife and their English friends. He has recently been living in England.
