BETTER RAILWAYS

INTERESTING ENGINEERING FEAT British Official Wlreles. (Received November 1, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, October 31. A remarkable engineering feat was accomplished yesterday when one of the most complex change-over schemes ever dealt with on the London transport system was effected, and the new underground railway station at Aidgate East came into existence. The scheme for the reconstruction of Aidgate East cost about £1,000,000. For two years the modernisation of the railway system to this point has been progressing without interference with the service. Yesterday the final stage was reached and the station closed for 28 hours to enable the engineers to lower 1400 feet of track 7 feet, remove the temporary platforms and staircases, complete the new booking office and floor. The first train ran over the reconstructed route early this morning.
