JUMPING PROVES POPULAR
GOOD HEAVYWEIGHT HUNTERS
Spectators are always keenly interested in the jumping events, and this year's show proved no exception to the rule, as during the afternoon the display of horsemanship attracted the attention of the majority of the public. In referring to the heavyweight hunters, the judge, Mr C. O. T. Rutherford (Blenheim) said that on the whole they were of a very fine type and the jumping was very good. C. L. Orbell’s Gambler repeated his success of last year to win the heavyweight
class, while R. Allan’s Charles was again the winner of the second award
which he won last year. Miss R. H. Muirhead’s Sunny Boy secured the third prize. Mr Rutherford commented that the light weight class was more of a mized class, but the placed horses had all put in very good rounds, especially the winner, Mr Eric Jackson’s Brisk, who annexed Mr J. Maze’s challenge cup and the miniature cup donated by Mr T. R. Rhodes. Brisk won the event in 1932 and 1933. Mr Rutherford added that Brisk had made a perfect round, with the exception of the last jump where he made a slight error. The judge expressed disappointment with the maiden jumper class which was somewhat below standard. B. Shaw secured first place with Arita and second place with Glen Royal in this event.
Ladies and open classes will be decided to-day, and the customary public interest, which is always a feature of people’s day, is anticipated, and in view’ of yesterday’s performances some good horsemanship should be witnessed.
