MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held at the Sailors’ Rest. The superintendent of the Band of Hope and the Loyal Temperance Legion reported good progress of work at both classes. Mr Head had kindly donated a silver cup for competition between these two classes. The treasurer reported that the special collection for the Chinese Refugee Fund amounted to £l/1/-. It was decided to forward this amount to the Mayor's Fund. It was agreed to accept the invitation of the Mayoress to have a representative member on her committee of women. It was decided to proceed with the renovation and painting of “Sailors’ Rest." The treasurer of the “Rest" reported the following donations of money or goods: W. Evans and Co., D. C. Turnbull and Co., C.F.C.A., Yachting Club, Tinwald W.C.T.U., and Ashburton Y.W.C.A. A vote of thanks and appreciation was passed to the donors. It was agreed to send letters of cheer to Mesdames Ca-o and Wallace, who have been ill.
Mrs Thomson gave her report of the devotional sessions held at the recent convention at Linwood.
