WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MACKENZIE GROUP OFFICERS’ SCHOOL An interesting and successful one day school for Women's Institute officers and members, conducted by Mrs S. C. Chisnail and Miss E. L. J. Davies voluntary organisers, was held in the Palish Hall, Fairlie. Mrs West, president of the Fairlie Women’s Institute extended a welcome to the organisers and members of the group to Fairlie and hoped that all would spend a happy day. She took the opportunity to convey congratulations to Mrs Chisnail, who had recently been elected as South Canterbury Federation's representative to the Dominion Council, also to Miss Davies. She then called on the Group Convenor, Mrs A. B. Mackenzie to take the chair. Mrs Mackenzie welcomed those present and wished them a profitable day. Delegates from the following Institutes answered the roll call —Fairlie, Kimbell, Ashwick Flat, Sherwood Downs, Mt. Nessing, Cave, Burkes Pass and Te Ngawai. Apologies were received from Mrs A. H. Gillingham, a member of the South Canterbury Executive, and the Allandale Institute. Mrs Chisnall gave an interesting outline of the history and growth of the Women’s Institute in New Zealand during the last 16 years. The organisers in a series of questions and answers embracing many points of interest in Institute work, explained the aims and objects of the movement, the duties of officers and members, and propedure of meetings. Afterwards they answered members’ questions arising from these matters. A hearty vote of thanks proposed by firs E. J. Robertson, Fairlie, seconded by Mrs Green, Burke's Pass, was passed to the organisers for their instructive and helpful addresses. Miss Davies then spoke on matters concerning the forthcoming searchlight revue in Timaru.
