WOMEN’S DIVISION

TIMARU BRANCH At the October meeting of the Timaru Branch of the Women's Division, Mrs L. Bell presided. Correspondence was received from the secretary of the Timaru A. and P. Association stating that the Division would be permitted to erect a tent at the show on the same conditions as previously. Members were asked to forward donations for the stall. Mrs J. Caird donated the competition cake for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Correspondence was received from Miss Violet Macmillan organiser of the A.C.E., stating that she would be free to give lectures about the middle of November. It was agreed that Mrs Evans interview Mrs Buchan, provincial president to see if a meeting could be arranged for Miss Macmillan to give a lecture in the afternoon of the provincial executive meeting day in November. Mrs Evans requested members to forward any new recipes they had for the Women’s Dvision centennial cookery book which would be printed at an early date. A paper on ‘‘Show Cookery” prepared by Miss Kelman was read. Miss Kelman sent in a number of excellent recipes for cakes and pastry for which Miss Kelman was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her excellent paper and recipes. Competitions were won as follows.— Apron: Mrs L. Stocker 1, Miss Stocker 2. Home made soap: Miss C. Bell 1, Mrs Divan 2. Premier bloom: Miss Divan 1, Miss D. Bell 2, Mrs Divan 3. ALBURY BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Albury Branch of the WD.F.U. the president (Mrs ’Neill) presided over a good attendance of members and visitors. Many useful parcels were received for the Makogai leper appeal. Miss Mackay gave a very Interesting demonstration on Victorian posy making, which was very much appreciated. Competitions for the month resulted.—Cotton frock: Mrs Adams 1, Mrs Cox and Mrs Tinkler 2. Coffee cake: Mrs Davidson 1, Mrs Tinkler 2. Bloom: Mrs Cox 1, Mrs Loomes 2. Lettuce: Mrs Smail. Afternoon tea was then dispensed, Mrs Groundwater and Mrs Loomes being the hostesses. PLEASANT POINT BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Pleasant Point branch of the Women’s Division was held last Wednesday in the Town Hall. Mrs Roberts presided over a fair attendance of members. A letter of welcome is to be sent to Miss Mclntosh who has been transferred from Tokanui. Mrs Archer was proposed as a new member. A euchre party is to be held next month in the supper room, the proceeds to go to Stratheona Hostel. Miss Lyonn gave a very interesting talk on seasonal gardening. Competitions resulted as follows.— Premier bloom, A: Miss Lyon 1, Mrs Ley 2. Premier bloom, B: Mrs Ley 1, Miss Watson 2. Nut loaf: Mrs Lyon 1, Mrs Roberts 2. Butter: Mrs Lyon and Mrs Chapman (equal) 1. Mesdames Oliver and Campbell were hostesses.
