STAFF DANCE
To celebrate their sixtieth anniversary in business in Timaru (1878-1938) the directors of McGruer Davies and Co. Ltd. entertained the staff and wives at dinner in the Bay tea rooms on Saturday. On behalf of the staff Miss M. David presented a bouquet to Mrs Davies senr. (wife of the late founder of the business). For more than 25 years service to the firm, presentations were made to Miss M. David, Messrs C. Smith and F. Triggs who suitably replied. The staff dance took the form of a “pleasure cruise aboard the S.S. Riot to the Gaiety Islands.” The ship’s band supplied the music and the committee, consisting of Captain W. C. Davies, First Mate F. J. Wright, Petty Officer J. McKinnon and Stewardesses, Misses D. Tapp, E. Provan, H. Cross and N. Malcolm worked hard in the true sailor fashion to make the cruise an outstanding success. Among the passengers were—Mr and Mrs W. C. Davies, Mr and Mrs P. D.
