DR BARNADO’S HOMES
A bring and buy sale for Dr. Barnardo was organised by members of the Barnardo Helpers’ League, at the Timaru West School. The stall holders were as follows: Sweets, Betty Fraser; cake, Joy Dellow, Ngaire Smith; dolls, Shirley Roberts anr Joan Newlands; jelly, Shirley Phelps and Dulcie Dellow; toy, Evelyn Jamison and June Grey; balloon, Jean McKee; work, Greta Fraser and Pat Breen; wardens, Joyce Ramsay and Peggy Phillips; soft drinks, Joy Mechial and Audrey Pierce. The afternoon closed with a delightful little programme, as follows: Tap dance, Marjory Morrison; pianoforte solo, Pauline Young; recitations, Lois Williams, Shirley Roberts and Joan Newlands; songs, Pauline Young, Betty Fraser, Joan Milne; duets, Noela Fraser and Pauline Young. Betty Fraser on behalf of the League presented Mrs Acutt (of London) with a bouquet. Mrs Acutt thanked the children also for the admirable way in which they had all worked for their stalls. Applause was given the mothers who had attended the sale and had given so generously.
