1937 WAS RAINY YEAR
TIMARU FIGURES DECREASE ON FALL FOR 1936 Timaru experienced another rainy year in 1937, but the total fall of 23.71 inches was a decrease of 7.09 inches on the total for 1936, which was the heaviest rainfall since 1902, when 31.03 inches were registered. In spite of the fact that'the total fall was lighter in 1937, rain was registered on 120 days compared with 99 days the previous year.
In 1936 the record fall for any one month was 8.39 in. in February, the ‘largest monthly total in 1937 being 6.78 in December, which has come to be regarded as one of Timaru’s wettest periods. January has given the present year a good start if any records are to be broken, as already 2.47 in. have fallen up till yesterday. The details obtained from the official observer at Timaru (Mr A. W.
