SOUTH C ANTERBURY WOOL The value of the wool industry to South Canterbury may be gleamed from the returns of the first South Canterbury wool sale, which was held in Timaru in December, the total proceeds from which amounted to £241.680 13 1. The number of bales offered amounted to 14.487. and of these 14.218 were sold. From these figures it will be seen that the number of passings at the Timaru sale, which at the date of the sale was the best held in the Dominion. was negligible, and amounted to only 269 bales. The total weight in pounds was 4 737.362. The average price a bale was £l7. and the average price a pound was 12.24 d.
