The stewards of the Australian Jockey Club concluded their inquiry into the Billy Boy case. They accepted the explanation of the trainer, J. King, but fined him £5 for unseemly conduct in gesticulating at a hostile crowd.
After winning the Tattersall's Club Cup on New Year’s Day, Billy Boy received one of the worst demonstrations in Randwick’s history. The crowd demanded an inquiry into his running compared with previous performances.
