CONDITIONS IN TIMARU Sunny and pleasant weather prevailed yesterday, the temperature being kept at a pleasant level by a cool east breeze. The sky became lightly overcast in the evening, however, but later cleared.

Records at Timaru Park yesterday were : Max. temp.—72.4. Min. temp, on grass—46.4. Wind—E.N.E.3. Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—,Bsins. Sunshine—ll.l hours. Sunshine to date this year—26.7hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch—The weather was fine and sunny yesterday with a fresh north-west wind. The maximum temperature was 81 degrees. The barometer was steady, reading 29.62 in at 5 p.m. Ashburton—The weather yesterday morning was sunny, the s!:y being only slightly cloudy. There Was a moderate south-easterly wind which was slightly cool, but the temperature generally was warm.

Geraldine—Bright and fine throughout the day. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday)—Thermometer, maximum 65.0; minimum, 51.2; bright sunshine 3 hours 6 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 69. Yesterday was fine and warm. Dunedin—Warm weather with a light to moderate north-east breeze was experienced yesterday, the temperature reaching a maximum of 72 degrees. The barometer rose steadily to 29.72 inches. CANTERBURY FORECAST Special to " The Timaru Herald." WELLINGTON, January 6. Winds.—North-west to westerly predominating but backing at times to south-west, force mainly light to moderate but occasionally squally. Weather—For the most part fair to fine and warm, but occasional scattered showers probable, especially with wind changes. Seas.—Rough north of Kaikoura, elsewhere slight to moderate.
