FARMERS’ UNION
FIELD DAY ARRANGED An Ambitious programme has been arranged by the New Zealand Farmers’ Union for a field day, which will be held on Saturday, December 11. The field day, which will take the form of a picnic, is being organised on a scale rarely attempted in South Canterbury, and it is expected that the attendance will exceed that of t.wo years ago, when 500 farmers and their wives and friends attended. The calibre of the ; peakers and the subjects to be discussed will assure those who attend of an interesting and profitable day from an educational point of view. The Temuka and Geraldine branches of the Union are to be commented for the enterprise they have shown in arranging an extremely interesting and varied programme. The programme will be commenced at 9.15 a.m„ when a visit will be paid to the Levels irrigation works, where the party will have an opportunity of watching a demonstration by Mr W. Stafford of the two methods of flooding the areas, and the result of irrigation on pastures and crops. From the Levels the party will proceed to Mr J. O. J. Oliver's farm at Winchester at 10.30 a.m., where certified pastures, potatoes and sugar beet will be inspected. Mr R.
