CORRESPONDENCE

TIMARU MILK SUPPLY

To the Editor of “ The Timaru Herald ” Sir,—Will you permit me to point out that your necessarily condensed report of the case in which I was charged with purchasing milk from an unregistered dairy, and selling it for human consumption (a charge which the Magistrate dismissed), hardly expressed just what I tried to say in my evidence. I am afraid, too, your report does Mr Kennedy an injustice because of the high quality of his cattle. With regard to the milk purchased from Mr Kennedy I sought to/ point cut that that milk, although not permitted to be sold for human consumption because it came from an unregistered dairy, could be used in the manufacture of ice cream. The quality of the milk was never the point at issue. As a matter of fact I would say that milk from Mr Kennedy’s pedigree Jersey herd is very much superior in quality and cream content to much of the milk sold in Timaru to-day for human consumption. But he does not run a registered dairy, hence the objection to that supply being used in town for purely domestic purposes.—l am, etc., GEO. BAIKIE. Timaru. November 27.
