POST-DEBUTANTES

TRAVEL TOUR Debutantes in England are taking life seriously as well as frivolously, and between the social seasons they are being instructed in house management, social etiquette, health and beauty culture. and special travel tours are

arranged so that these future leaders of society can gain experience in the customs, etiquette, and manners of other lands. It is on somewhat similar lines that Miss Valerie Purves is planning her “travel tour for debutantes” to start from Melbourne in March, 1938, by the Orlon, under the auspices of the Orient-Lloyd Travel Service. In addition to a special tour on the Continent, during which the party will have the services of a special courier to attend to all travel services and to the personal comfort of the party, Miss Purves has arranged for this group of Australian girls to be present at the private openings of the Paris fashion salons, and entree cards from such famous firms as Molyneux and Jean Patou have already been granted. Beauty culture is an important side in women’s social and professional life, and Miss Purves has also arranged for members of her party to be received by such well-known experts as Madame Helena Rubinstein, who has one of the most beautiful homes in Paris.

Mrs James Dyer is also kindly making plans for the party to be received officially through the International Friendship Organisation. Plans are being discussed in Paris for the reopening of the Exposition next spring, and if this takes place a private reception will be arranged for the Australian party in-the Australian section of the Exposition; or, if not, a special 5 o’clock reception will be given under the auspices of the British Embassy, in the lovely garden at the Embassy building. A special motor tour In England has also been planned—the party to travel in private cars. The numbers in the party are to be strictly limited to give it a private and personal atmosphere, and the girls must have made their debut and be aged more than 20 years. Only a few vacancies still exist, and any mother who desires her daughter to have this “finishing tour” should apply to Miss Purves, Shenton, Toorak Road, Toorak.
