OBITUARY MR HENRY McCLINTON Mr Henry McClinton, whose death occurred at Geraldine on Monday, in his eighty-sixth year, was a resident of Orari Bridge, where he was engaged as a farmer for more than 30 years. A few years ago, Mr McClinton moved to a farm on the Woodbury road where he continued farming until his retirement about three years ago. Mr McClinton was the son of Mr Robert McClinton, a pioneer in the Oxford district. As a young man, Mr McClinton worked on various farms in North Canterbury, eventually purchasing a property at Orari Bridge. His wife pre-deceased him several years ago. The funeral took place at Oxford on Wednesday, Mr J. A. Harrow conducting the service. The pall bearers were Messrs Inch Brothers, of Oxford. NATIONAL PARTY Under the auspices of the Geraldine Women’s branch of the New Zealand National Party, Mr J. Niblock, of Christchurch, gave an interesting address on “Socialism” to an audience of 130 women in the Geraldine Presbyterian Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs Jack Acland, president of the Women’s branch, who occupied the chair, introduced the speaker. Mr Niblock was accorded an attentive hearing, and at the conclusion of his address, a vote of thanks, proposed by Mrs J. M. Little, was carried by acclamation. Afternoon tea was served. RANGITATA EUCHRE PARTY There was a good attendance at the fortnightly euchre party and dance held in aid of funds by the committee of the Rangitata Soldiers’ Memorial Hall. Mrs James Hearn and Mr Percy Scott won the prizes, which were given by Mr McClelland. Mr M. Murphy supplied the music, extras being played by Mrs Metcalf. Mr W. Tate was M.C.
