STREET SEALING

FURTHER WORK IN PROSPECT COUNCIL’S DECISION A further programme of tar sealing was agreed upon by the Borough Council at a meeting last night. The Borough engineer (Mr T. O. Fox suggested that the intersections of the following streets be sealed: Te Weka and Park View Terrace, Babington Street and Buchanan Street, Rhodes Street and Aynsley Street, Avenue Road and Clifton Terrace, Orbell Street and Douglas Street, Park Lane and June Street, Rugby Street angle, Seddon Street and Orbell Street. A suggestion that the sealing of the following streets be undertaken was also made by the engineer: Caroline Bay (£189), Jackson Street (£160), Archer Street (£360), Browne Street (£580).

The Works Committee expressed itself in favour of the sealing of the intersections and recommended that the sealing of Caroline Bay, Jackson and Browne Streets be undertaken and also that portion of Cain Street from Hassall Street to Aynsley Street.

As it is a bus route and residents complain of the dust nuisance, the North End Ratepayers’ Association requested the sealing of Hobbs Street.

The engineer reported that the work would not be satisfactory until kerbing and channelling was constructed and the one property on the north side acquired for street widening. The estimated cost of kerbing and channelling was £412, the Ccuncll’s share of -which would be £275. The estimated cost of tar sealing the roadway was £375. The matter was referred to the estimates.
