SYMPATHY WITH EX-PRESIDENT At the monthly meeting of the Geraldine Branch of the Women’s Christion Temperance Union members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with Mrs F. H. P. Wallach, an expresident, in the recent death of her son, Mr N. S. Wallach. FOOTBALL In the senior Rugby match arranged to be played at Geraldine on Saturday Timaru Old Boys defaulted to Geraldine. Old Boys defeated Geraldine by 26 points to 6 in the third grade match played at Timaru. BASKETBALL The Geraldine Old Girls defeated Geraldine Rovers by a narrow margin in the friendly basketball match played on Saturday afternoon. In an evenly contested second grade game Orari Bridge drew with St. Joseph’s (Temuka) 19 all. Misses Evelyn Callanan, Jill Lapthorn and Zena Stevenson represented the Geraldine Club in the Temuka Sub-Association’s representative teams which played the annual matches at Timaru on Saturday. SCHOOL BENEFIT PICTURES Great men and the main events of the past thirty years live again on the screen in “Crown and Glory,” a picture made from actual film records of British history, from Queen Victoria’s reign to the present day, which will be the main feature of the Geraldine D.H.S. benefit programme at the Municipal Theatre to-morrow evening. The cavalcade of events commences with the coronation of Edward VII., shows the murder of Archduke Ferdinand at Serajeva, actual battle scenes in the Great War, and authentic film records of the Battle of Jutland. Concluding scenes include King George's silver jubilee, the rise of Hitler, the Abyssinian War, the abdication crisis and the accession of King George and Queen Elizabeth. The second feature, “Timothy’s Quest,” is a drama of an orphan enduring cruelty and hardship to bring love and happiness to his sister.
