TOWN V. COUNTRY FINAL TRIAL TO-DAY The series of trial matches arranged by tfie South Canterbury Rugby Union to facilitate the selection of the South Canterbury representative team will conclude this afternoon when a Town v. Country match will be played at Fraser Park. An innovation this year is the fact that the Country team has been chosen from players representing the Waimate and Mackenzie SubUnions, whereas the side previously was chosen from country clubs participating in the Skinner Cup competition. The change should prove valuable to the selectors as they will now have an additional opportunity of seeing the Sub-Union men in action against town players. Both Sub-Union fixtures this season were played early to facilitate the selection of the representative team, which has a heavy programme of fixtures ahead of it. The games proved most beneficial, considerable talent being discovered, particularly in the forwards. The Country side to-day will have a very strong pack, and some of its members may cause town forwards to look to their laurels. With a game against the Springboks and a tour of the North Island in view, players have an incentive to obtain selection, and, as to-day’s match may be their last opportunity to show their form, the standard of football should be high. While Country can be expected to have an advantage in the scrums, Town’s backs should dominate play and good, open football should result. The teams will line out as follows: Town Full-back: C. Rollinson (Old Boys). Three-quarters: E. Ryan (Old Boys). K. McPhail (Celtic), D. Hopkinson (Temuka). Five-eighths: C. Cartwright (Star), B. Morrison (Old Boys). Half-back: L. Goodson (Temuka). Back-row: G. Vucetich (Star). Middle row: G. Cain (Temuka), F S. R. Thomson (Old Boys), J. Stewart (.Temuka), P. Fitzgerald (Celtic). Front row: M. Cameron (Temuka), T. Gunn (Star), G. Adkins (Star). Country Full-back: J. MacKenzie (W.). Three-quarters: A. Smith (M.), J. Bartlett (W.), C. Goul ter (M.). Five-eighths: J. Keenan (M.), R. Lundy (W). Half-back: G. Wright (W.). Back row: A. Carlton (M.). Middle row: J. Bryce (W.), W. Dennison (W.), A. Robertson (M.), E. Allnutt (W.). Front row: T. Hansen (W.), A. Simpson (M.), F. Greer (M.). Teams Default Old Boys have defaulted .to Geraldine in the senior grade, and Star to Zingari in the junior grade to-day.
