SOUTH END
RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION At a meeting of the South End Ratepayers’ Association, Mr W. Stevens, who presided, made reference to the continued ill-health of Mr A. Carnegie, the president, and wished him a speedy recovery. Satisfaction was expressed at the Borough Council’s intentions to tarseal College Road and Cain Street, also to undertake the beautifying of Alexandra Square and other works, and hopes for even a larger programme next year. Reference was made to the needs of Browne Street and Alexandra Street also Rhodes Street, particularly the North Street end, where the shingle naturally gravitates to North Street, becoming a source of danger on the smooth surface of the tar-sealed road. The secretary was instructed to write other Associations, and invite them to help in furthering the development and beautifying of the sea front and shingle beach. A letter was received from the Borough Council inviting elderly people associated with the South End to plant trees in Alexandra Square on Arbor Day.
