(At the general election in November, 1935, the result was: Sir C. Hanbury (Conservative) 13,055; Mr W. Borthwick (Liberal) 9871; Capt. G. H. Pitt-Revers (Independent) 1771; Miss M. Whitehead (Labour) 1,360; Conservative majority 3184).
