TIMARU AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION

To the Editor of “The Tlmaru Herald.” Sir, —Upon reading that the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association showed a loss of £153 odd on their financial year, I thought that surely it is time to stress once again the advisability of reducing the entrance fee to the showgrounds. There are numbers of families who have absented themselves (my own amongst the number) the past two or three years, on account of the increased gate charges. Where there are seven or eight members of a family all wishing to go to the show it makes one pause and think of the entrance money which mounts up considerably at 2/- per head. I am quite sure that if the Association were to reduce the fee to its old price there would not be a deficit on their balance sheet. The show paid for many years at 1/- per head and there is no reason why it should not do so in future especially as the general public now have a little more money to spend. I think it would be worth trying at all events and given reasonably fair weather I am sure the result would prove very satisfactory.—l am, etc., DISAPPOINTED PATRON. Timaru, March 14.
