PROTECTION FOR PEDESTRIANS
To the Editor ot " The flmaru Herald Sir, —It would appear that at the Dominion conference of the Justices of the Peace Association, ths suggestion that pedestrians on country roads should wear a tail light, was treated with levity. I think that where there are no footpaths and pedestrians have to share the road with motor and other traffic, they should be compelled to have some distinguishing mark about them. It would be quite possible to attach to the heel or bac' of the boot, a small red glass, similar to those used in direction posts on our roads. As the person walked these would flash in the light of an overtaking car. I am neither a hiker, biker nor motorist, but I am fully aware of the dangers on our roads at night.—l am, etc., LITTLE JOHNNY. Timaru, March 9.
