SOUTH CANTERBURY Owing to the intermittent rain produce is coming in slowly to satisfy the demand in the South Canterbury grain, seed and produce markets. Milling wheat: Although the weather does not favour the work, milling wheat is still being threshed. There is a good quantity of wheat yet to be cut. Fowl wheat: The nominal quotation is 4/10 a bushel f.o.b. Oats: There is still a fair inquiry for A. and B. Garton oats at 3/- a bushel on trucks for A’s and 2/10 for B’s. The market is well supplied with Duns and there has been no inquiry during the week. They are worth 3/1 to 3/2 a bushel on trucks. Algerians are worth 2/8 a bushel on trucks. Barley: Chevalier is quoted at 4/a bushel on trucks and undergrade at 3/6. Black barley is worth 4/9. Partridge peas: The value of No. I’s is 5/3 a bushel on trucks. Chaff: Good bright oatensheaf is worth £3 7s 6d a ton on trucks. Potatoes: There has been a little better Inquiry for potatoes for forward delivery on the basis of £3 10s a ton on trucks. Seeds: Owing to the low germination of the majority of seeds offering, particularly certified seed, anything of good quality and germination is in demand. Canterbury ryegrass and Italian arc quoted at 2/9 a bushel on trucks, cowgrass 6d per lb, white clover 6d, and cocksfoot 6d.
