ADDINGTON MARKET IMPROVEMENT IN VALUES Bt Telegraph —Pres« Mscclattan CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. Values were slightly better at today’s Addington market for most classes of stock. Store sheep.—There was a yarding of about 20,000, ewes predominating. There was a freer sale of ewes than at last week’s market, two-tooths being better by 2/- a head and old ewes by 1/-. A southern consignment of Romney two-tooths sold at 41/3 and 41/9. Forward lambs sold a shade better nothwithstanding the lowered export schedule for fat lambs. Fat lambs—Values were down about 1/- to 1/6 in accordance with the reduction in the export schedule of Id per lb. The offering was a small one of 1800 head. Fat sheep.—There was a slightly smaller entry. Wethers were in small supply and sold at an improvement. Best brought from 39/- to 34/-, good 26/- to 28/-, medium 24/- to 25/6. Ewes sold at fully last weeks rates, exporters operating at a small reduction on recent rates. Best ewes sold from 22/- to 26/-, good medium weights 19/- to 21/6, others from 14/upwards. Fat cattle.—There was a smaller penning, 373 head, and an improvement of about 15/- a head. Best steers sold at £l2 to £l5/12/6, good £lO/10/to £ll/5/- and others down to £B. The best of the heifers sold at £8 to £lO and cows to £9/10/-. Fat pigs.—There was a good sale of porkers but baconers were down by 5/- a head. Porkers made from 33/6 to 46/6 (average price 53d to 61d per lb) and baconers 43/6 to £4/5/6 (average price per lb sid to 53d). The yarding totalled 265, the bulk consisting of medium sorts. Prime bullocks made £l5/7/6 to £l6/2/6, medium £lO/17/6 to £l3/12/6, light £7 to £B/12/6, prime heifers £B/12/6 to £lO/7/6, prime cows £7/12/6 to £lO, medium £6/2/6 to £7/12/6, and light £2/15/- to £5/12/6. There was a medium yarding of 180 head of store cattle. Three and fouryear old steers made £9, and three-year-olds £5 to £6/5/The fat sheep entry comprised 2065 head. Values showed an easing of from 1/- to 1/6 a head. Extra heavy wethers made 30/- to 31/9, prime medium 28/- to 29/6, light 22/- to 24/9, good ewes 22/- to 26/-, prime medium 18/- to 21/-, and light 14/- to 17/-. There was a yarding of 1084 fat lambs. Exporters operated on slightly reduced scales. Extra prime made 30/-, 31/9, prime 27/- to 29/6, and medium 22/- to 24/6. A yarding of 130 fat pigs met with a quiet sale, heavy baconers realising up to £3/16/-, light £2/16/- to £3, and porkers up to £2/15/-. GERALDINE STOCK SALE SOUND MARKET LARGE YARDING Fairly large entries came forward for the stock sale held yesterday at the Geraldine saleyards. The fat sheep sale for butchers sorts was slightly easier, but exporters’ lines were firm at late values. About 800 lambs met with a good demand. The store sheep sale was a firm one for the class on offer. The quality was not so good as at the Pleasant Point sale. The pig sale was a very slack one. Values were:
