HAIRDRESSERS AND TOBACCONISTS
ANNUAL MEETING The annual general meeting of the South Canterbury Hairdressers’ and Tobacconists’ Association, Timaru, was held In the Caroline Bay Tea Rooms. After welcoming Messrs T. Vincent (Pareora), C. Davis (Geraldine) and A. Beck (Temuka) to the meeting, the president (Mr H. J. Clark) stated that much good work had been done through the year, and members could see for themselves the improvement in trade conditions. However, there was yet much to be done, and he urged members to attend the meetings and give their wholehearted co-operation throughout the coming year.' The Association was indebted to the various officials of the New Zealand Hairdressers’ and Tobacconists’ Federation for their assistance with different matters. In conclusion, Mr Clark said that this was the last meeting of the old Association, and in future it would operate under the title of South Canterbury Hairdressers and Tobacconists (Inc.).
The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed that the Association was in a comparatively sound position. A small honorarium was granted the secretary in appreciation of his work. The members present spoke highly of the work done by the executive and expressed their appreciation of the report of the year’s activities. The following offifficers were elected: President, Mr H. J. Clark; vicepresident, Mr P. Chamberlain; secretary. Mr N. T. Walker; assistant secretary, Mr R. Clark; executive, Messrs H. J. Clark, N. T. Walker, E. Gibson. P. Chamberlain, E. Pratt. At the conclusion of ’.he business the members participated in a smoke concert, items being contributed by Messrs P. Chamberlain (accordion), H. J. Clark (accordion), F. Wurm (piano) R. Clark (piano), V. Forbes and N. T Walker (vocal duet).
