COMPETITION DATE FIXED COMMITTEE MEETS The district fat lamb competition sponsored by the New Zealand Meat Producers Board and conducted under the auspices of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Asosciation will be
held this year on December 11. At a meeting of the competition committee yesterday, there were present—Messrs
A. S. Elworthy (chairman), W. Mlnehan, A. Hutton, W. Scott. G. Webster, F. Simmons, M. Beath. W. G. Black, J. Little, W. E. Black. Fyfe, W. Borrie, T. Brownlie. T. E. Besley, A. Bain, G. Wood, L. Nicholas and C. H. S. Johnston. It was decided that the lambs be killed at Pareora on Friday, December 11, entries to close on December 8. authority to be given to extend entries up to the time of judging.
It was agreed that lambs for the competition be not over 62!b. live weight. Arrangements were made that the lambs should be judged on the hoof and on the hooks. The judges on the hoof were left to Mr W. W. Baxter to arrange while Messrs M. Hanna (Meat Board inspector) and F. ichards (grader at Pareora) were appointed to judge on the hooks.
Messrs A. S. Elworthy, B. E. H. Tripp, T. Seaton, W. W. Baxter, W. Minehan, C. S. Smith. W. Fraser. G. Webster, and J. Little were appointed an Emergency Committee. Arrangements for the assembly of lambs at certahi points, the animals to be ticketed bearing the owner’s name, were left to the Emergency Committee.
The lambs, it was decided, were to be yarded at 9 a.m., judging to be commenced at 10 a.m. Messrs Little and Scott were appointed penning stewards, the weighing of lambs being left in the hands of Messrs W. G. Black and W. Fraser. The prizes were fixed as follow: £3, £2 and £1 on the hoof, with a similar scale on the hooks. It was agreed that this year awards of £3, £2 aud £1 be made for the best pen of the competition lambs exhibited in London. The Challenge Cup and an accompanying miniature (given by the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company) will go to the winner of the best pen on the hooks.
It was decided to extend an invitation to prominent citizens and interested persons to be present, and to ask the Meat Board to select a speaker. It was arranged that while the judging was in progress, the public be excluded from the cooling room.
It was reported that the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company had extended an invitation to all present to be their guests at luncheon and to inspect the works.
