BOYS’ HOME
MEETING OF SUBSCRIBERS A satisfactory year’s operations were reviewed at the annual meeting of subscribers to St. Saviour’s Boys’ Home, which was held in St Mary’s Parish hall on Thursday. Mr C. G. Bryan King presided over a good attendance.
In reviewing the activities of the past year, the chairman said that everything had been running with commendable smoothness, and credit was due to the Rector, the Matron and the staff. The Vicar’s annual appeal has been successfully managed, and the satisfactory sum of £9O had been raised. The chairman expressed appreciation to the colleztors who had done so much to make the appeal such a success. The committee was grateful to all the organisations and individuals that had given assistance during the year.
Reference was made to the deaths of Miss Tripp, Miss Woollcombe, and Mr Philip, a member of the staff.
The valuable assistance given at all times by Mr R. W. Simpson, who has retired from the standing committee, was commented on by members and it was decided to place on record his work over a long period of years. The committee for the ensuing year was elected as follows:—Messrs B. E. H. Tripp, R. W. Simpson, C. H. Romans, C. G. Bryan King, A. S. Elworthy, W. W. Baxter, T. C. Palliser, Rev. H. Norris and Miss Schmidt. Mr A. G. S. Gibbs submitted a comprehensive report on the activities of the Central Council. In his report the Rector (Mr S. Razell Wood), stated that the boys generally were in good health and were well behaved.
Archdeacon Monaghan, Chaplain of the Home, said that he had been particularly struck by the boys’ behaviour.
