Moreover the machinations of the Broederbond affected the life of the community, as it was connected with other secret institutions, exploiting political and racial aims. General Hertzog disclosed that the Afrikander Broederbond had organised local divisions, which closely examined applications for membership. There was a danger that the non-members in the Civil service would be victims to intrigue, while the teacher members were endangering the interests of the childm.
