MAULED BY LION
TRAINER’S FATAL TRUST IN BIG BEASTS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 14, 7.35 p.m.) CHICAGO, May 14. Herman Zeiler, the famous Los Angeles lion tamer, was severely mauled by lions and died muttering excuses for his pets. He blamed himself for stumbling, and complained that his favourite lions, Mars and Menelike, clawed and chewed him. “I never would have expected it, for I trusted them and treated them like pets, but they are just big kids; they did not know what they were doing,” said Zeiler before he died.
