GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

The South Canterbury women’s golf championship was brought to a close on Saturday afternoon, when mixed foursomes for the Wright Cup were played, the winners being Mr and Mrs A. Horwell with Mrs J. A. Scott and Mr I. Cunningham runners-up. The tournament, which started on Thursday, was carried through successfully in spite of bad weather at the commencement. The trophies were presented by Mrs E. G. Kerr, president of the Timaru Ladies’ Club, who congratulated the winners and expressed a wish that the visiting players, who had done so much for the success of the tournament, would compete again next year. Mis.-}, Halmai Loughnan, of the Christchurch Club, replied on behalf of the visitors. Afternoon tea was served in the club house, the tables being decorated with bowls of autumn leaves and chrysanthemums. Those present were Mr W. H. Walton, president of the Timaru Club, Mr and Mrs E.
