PERFECTLY FAIR IN EVERY WAY

SUTCLIFFE ON “LEG THEORY” GREAT BATSMAN’S VIEW OF NEW RULES United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 1, 7.15 p.m.) LONDON, May 1. Making what he described as his first public expression of opinion on the subject, Herbert Sutcliffe in “For England and Yorkshire,’’ published to-day, says: “On the several occasions on which I faced Larwood’s fast leg theory attack, I found it perfectly fair in every way. Larwood never compelled me to duck or break away.” Sutcliffe adds: “Nothing would ever have been heard of the fast leg theory, if perfect wickets had not been produced to make good length fast bowling innocuous.” Sutcliffe expresses the opinion that the new leg-theory rule will definitely end the fast leg theory bowling, but asks whether the alteration does not swing the pendulum too far, in giving the bowlers an unfair advantage.
