WOODBURY

GIRL GUIDE PARTY The members of the Ist Waihi Company, Woodbury Girl Guides, entertained parents and friends in the Coronation Hall. The party was to mark the closing of the fifth year of guiding and a very pleasant evening was spent in games, competitions and country dancing. The first part of the evening was taken up with the enrolment of three new guides. This ceremony was performed by the District Commissioner, Mrs John Hodgkin, who spoke a few words to guides and parents on the ideals of the movement. The following items prepared by the guides were very well produced: Dutch character song in costume, Joy Pauling and Audrey Templeton; nympth’s dance, also in costume, Jean Fifield, Evelyn Pearce, Roma Cooling, Gertrude Templeton, Dora Gillespie, Joy Pauling and Winsome Chisnall; a charade, illustrative of rules of health, was much enjoyed. Supper was served by the guides, a feature being the birthday cake, made and iced by Ranger G. Baker. Captain Waller thanked all those who had helped the party, especially Mrs Brown, who played the accompaniments and had given up much of her time to practices. Competitions were won by Jack Brown, Douglas Chisnall and Audrey Templeton. LADIES’ RIFLE CLUB On Wednesday last the Woodbury Ladies’ Rifle Club held its end of season social and presentation of trophies. A pleasant time was spent in games and dancing to music provided by Mrs Brown. In the absence of the president, Mrs L. E. Williams, Mrs Baker, captain of the Club, called on Mrs Chisnall to present the trophies as follows:—Mrs William’s trophy, Miss Sharpe; Mrs Wooding’s trophy, Miss Baker; Mrs Turton’s trophy, Mrs Baker; Mrs Chisnall’s trophy, Mrs G. Cain; Mrs Harris’s trophy for best aggregate for first year shots, Miss Sharpe. PLEASANT POINT TALKIES Clever dialogue, a wealth of catchy music, beautiful frocking, artistic stagecraft, and the tireless efforts of Stanley Lupino, and Betty Stockfield, heading a strong cast, provide delightful entertainment in “King of the Ritz,” which will be screened at Pleasant Point to-night. There will be excellent variety supports, including the third cricket test at Manchester and the All Blacks’ first match at Sydney.
