AUSTRALIAN RACING NIGHTLY WINS MOONEE VALLEY CUP United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received October 28, 6.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 28. At the Moonee Valley races, the Moonee Valley Cup, of 3000 sovs; 125 furlongs, resulted.—Nightly 1. Miramond 2, Upoko Ariki 3. M. McCarten rode the winner. Nightly was not extended in the Cup race, which is a great Melbourne Cup trial. He is now liable to a rehandicap. The New Zealander Peter Jackson won the Moonee Valley Cup last year. Today’s minor place-getters all have New Zealand associations. Streperous dropped dead shortly after the finish of the race. Playground, when running second, fell at the last jump in to-day’s hurdles. His rider, Tucker escaped injury. As was the case at Randwick, Roy Reed successfully claimed a losing fee for Nightly. The trainers of the New Zealanders, Walton Park and Ventrac, have been fined £1 for now scratching their horses in the Cup. Silver Ring was outclassed in the Cox Plate, being better suited to a handicap. Golden Hair and Royal Hunting failed to show up in the Dundonald Handicap. The winner of the race Double Bard, has had four wins in the last five starts.
