STRAUSS MELODIES
MANUSCRIPT RESCUED FROM DUST-BIN United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright < Received October 17, 7 p.m.) LONDON, October 16. Two hundred manuscripts of forgotten melodies by Johann Strauss were rescued from a dust-heap in Vienna when Dr Wilhelm Grosz, the composer of the popular dance “Isle of Capri,” was passing a refuse lorry clearing debris from an old house. Dr Grosz paid the equivalent of half a crown for a bundle of manuscripts, being utterly unaware of their real value. Examining them at home he found that many were in the handwriting of Strauss.
A selection was broadcast from London on October 1, the words being specially written by Captain Harry Graham.
